PET OF THE WEEK

Laurel

The shelter cupboards are getting empty – we really need Pedigree dry dog food, dry cat food, bleach and paper toweling – if you can help with some of these items we would be very grateful!

Happy October! Fall is certainly in the air and Halloween is right around the corner which brings me to the subject of pumpkin kitties! Yep, pumpkin kitties and I’m one of them – my name is Laurel and I’m an orange marmalade and white kitty. There are several of us “pumpkin” kitties, all shades and designs of orange – most of us are related but there is one or two that isn’t but we treat like family just same. We are about 10 weeks old, very social, playful and healthy! All of us looking for a home before we grow up so now would be a good time to adopt one of us, that’s what we think anyway – hopefully some families out there will think the same thing! We are all spayed or neutered, up to date on our shots and we even have a microchip. I really enjoy watching the leaves pass by the shelter windows, watching them float down from the tallest branches, day dreaming about the lazy days I could be watching all this happen from the back of a soft couch with my family nearby, maybe with a small fire in the fireplace just to keep us warm and comfortable, maybe my lady friend sitting in a chair knitting a snuggle blanket just for me. Whoa, wait a minute – I’m still a kitten – off the couch I come – leaping over the chair at the sound of clicking knitting needles, pouncing on the ball of yarn and taking off with it only to drop it a few feet away to check to see if it moves – maybe grabbing it with my claws and tucking it into my belly so I have a good grip to give it some quick back leg running motion digs. Yeah, that’s more like it, certainly more entraining for all of us, there will be many years of lazy days, we are only kittens once and for a very short time – enjoy it! Want to meet one of us (most especially me)? We will be waiting at the shelter or you can give them a call 989-785-3737.

Pet Angel Program
PET ANGEL PROGRAM
Is your house already full of pets, or maybe you aren't home enough to care for a pet? We have a way for you to help a shelter dog or cat find that forever home.

Elk Country Animal Shelter offers the "Pet Angel Program." It allows one person, a group of friends, or a service club, to sponsor a shelter dog or cat.

For $200 you can sponsor a dog or $150 sponsors a cat. This covers the adoption fee and provides toys, beds, a nice size bag of food, treats and a new collar and leash. And as always, the pet will be spayed or neutered, have all vaccinations and a microchip. There is a nice placard that has your name on it, that will be placed over the kennel or cat cage. You will receive a thank you, but most of all you will have helped a dog or cat who really needed a helping hand.

Think about it, won't you?
