SUGAR

SUGAR

My name is Sugar; I’m a white German Shepherd Mix. Many of you may know me or seen me as I have been wandering around the Thunder Bay Golf Resort, up and down M-32 and around downtown Hillman for at least eight months. There have been lots of people that have tried to catch me including many attempts from deputies and I had outsmarted them all. I really wanted to be “almost” near to people, I followed them around, ate out of their gentle caring hands, and even gave them the pleasure of giving me a little chin scratch; but I was just so scared that I just couldn’t take that extra step to let someone actually get a hold of me, until now. I found myself a boyfriend and followed him home and that’s when I found myself captured in a room at his house - I was trapped with no way out, the deputy was called again but this time I couldn’t get away. That “extra step” was now forced upon me as I had no other choice but to get caught and now I am living at the Sheriff’s department kennel. I know I’m safe now and trying to get used to people touching me. I am still very afraid but everyday that goes by I’m finding out that I’m getting a little less afraid. It’s going to take a long time for me to trust people; after all I haven’t really had anyone really touch me in a very, very long time. They keep telling me everything is going to be alright and I want with my whole heart to believe it but it’s just going to take some time. I want to thank everyone that cared about me; all the people that fed me, worried about me, built me shelters so I wouldn’t freeze over the winter and most of all grown to love me. I will try my best to become a real dog; I now have a collar and a tag and that’s a step in the right direction.
If anyone wants to know about Sugar’s progress or well being please don’t hesitate to call Pauline at the Elk Country Animal Shelter, 989-785-3463. Sugar is going to need veterinary care and behavior rehabilitation, anyone interested in donating to her care please send it to ECAS PO Box 434 Atlanta, MI 49709.
