MOXIE

I was chosen to be Pet of the Week so I can send my message about shelter dogs and what great companions they can turn out to be. I’m a Rottweiler mix named Pumpkin; they named me that because I was found the day before Thanksgiving curled up in the deep snow with a broken pelvis. Unable to move I knew in my heart this was the last place I was going to bed down. Late that night people showed up, tromped through the snow to get me, scooped me up and rushed me to the veterinarian. I spent many painful days while my pelvis was on the mend, I was forced to stand up a few times every day, I really didn’t want to because it hurt so badly but they kept telling me it was for my own good. For weeks I did the army crawl to go outside to do my business then all of a sudden I got up and walked, and hey, it didn’t hurt real bad anymore, soon I was trotting around like nothing happened. Since, like many of the other shelter dogs, my previous owner never came looking for me so I was spayed and put up for adoption. They found a match for me, a wonderful lady that needed me as much as I needed her. She named me Moxie because she said I had “it”. I will be her friend and companion and will always be loyal. I now bed down in front of a warm fireplace where I can see my friend and make sure all is well, that is my job. There are many other shelter dogs just like me – good dogs. We just need another start in life and we will never forget that gift of life when chosen. So, my message to everyone this week, please choose a shelter dog, your life could be blessed with the best dog ever. I heard the kennel has many dogs, make one of them as lucky as me. Sincerely, Moxie
