JUNE 2008

Hello Everyone!!

Fantastic things have been happening for the shelter in the recent days and we would like to share the News.

At the top of the list is our new shelter building, we are very excited, and getting more and more excited each day as the clock ticks closer to renovations to begin; which should be in the very near future.

A representative from Benjamin Moore Paints visited the shelter last week and they are donating all the paint, yes, I said “all”, inside and outside. This is a tremendous donation as paint is very costly and we are going to need lots of it. We are very thankful for this donation and lucky to have one of our supporters related to the late Benjamin Moore. WooHOooo.

Since the purchase of the shelter building on June 12th we have gotten many calls from people wanting to donate needed items, office equipment, dog exercise kennels, and supplies just for starters. It is such a great feeling to say “yes, you can drop it off at the shelter” and at the same time they can get a look around, get a tour and share in the excitement. Finally a real facility for the Elk Country Animal Shelter, a real place to drop items off, a real place for us to have our meetings, and most of all a “real” shelter for the animals we all have worked so hard for!

The shelter Youth Group has been very busy the past few days selling A&W root beer floats outside of Glens in Lewiston. A&W donated all the Root Beer and glasses, the ice cream and spoons were donated by Glens. It was nice weather and good turnout, the group had fun and in those two days raised $625.00 for the shelter. It’s so refreshing to see the energy and enthusiasm generated by the Youth Group. Sarah Prince does such a great job of recruiting others, putting the events together and making them a success, we are very fortunate to have Sarah and all the other young people that have helped with the Youth Group events.

Barbara Steele of Atlanta had a birthday party and asked that any gifts be donations to help the shelter. It must have been one heck of a party because she gave us $550.00 (and I think she has a check or two yet to give us) and lots of supplies for the shelter, bleach, kitty litter, litter pans, cat toys, beds, dawn, paper towels and other items too numerous to mention (or maybe because I can’t remember). Kudos to Barbara Steele for being so generous to share the fruits of her special day with the shelter. It’s a great idea!

The golf outing is coming along great! Our volunteers have been hard at it and it shows, we are further ahead than this time last year, more golfers and more sponsor dollars, but we have to push harder than ever - we now have a building we need to turn into a shelter. I have attached the golf flyer and signup sheet for anyone who still wants to golf or participate and hasn’t had a chance yet. We all have been working hard to make this and our other events more successful year after year. We couldn’t do it without all the volunteers that are go getters and this shelter group is full of them, that’s how we got this far! We all work together, each of us doing what we can to make this shelter happen, and we must be doing something right because it is HAPPENING!

We can’t thank each and everyone enough for all the hard work, the dedication and sincere support over the years to make the dream of the Elk Country Animal Shelter a reality in 2008!
Thank you all for making this happen!

Sincerely;
Pauline Hancock
