goose

Odd Duck Out

My name is Odd-duck; I got that name because I was always the odd duck of the group. I am a Chinese Goose that was abandoned and alone, then taken under the caring wings of a couple of downstate vacationers; I spent my wonderful summer out on the lake in front of their home, found food and safety in their yard and slept my nights on their front porch. I made many friends like the Canadian Geese that hung around. (They were a wild bunch, but I enjoyed them just the same). Sadly for me, summer has come to an end, and the wild bunch flew away. I wish I could have gone, but I’m not able to fly; so my last feathered friend left was the white cement goose in the yard. She has a stone-cold personality and is of very few honks, but I liked her anyway and have stayed by her side for many days.

Now my people friends say they have to close up for the summer and go back downstate. They wish they could have taken me, but city life isn’t a good life for a goose, and they couldn’t just leave me alone for a predator to get me, so they called the shelter for help, and I am now living at a temporary home. But I don’t like it much. Food is good, but I have no feathered friends to hang around with, and if anyone knows about us geese, they know we aren’t happy without other goose friends. I would even settle for some duck friends. I am always the odd one anyway.

I would love to go to a nice farm where there are many others like me where we can walk around together all day long because that’s what geese like to do. You have heard of mall walkers; well we can be yard walkers. Got room at your place for another goose on the loose? Call Pauline at 989-785-3463 for more information
