Elk Country Animal Shelter's commitment to the companion animals of this area is strong despite having no shelter to house unwanted companion animals at this time. Thanks to the Montmorency Sheriff's Department, stray dogs have a home, but cats have no where to go and are a huge problem in this county as well as our neighboring counties. When our shelter's doors finally open, we do not want to find ourselves overrun with unwanted cats. Due to this problem, Elk Country Animal Shelter believes the best way to decrease the cat population is by an active spay and neuter program. So we are bringing this service to you in September and October.
We will sponsor two clinics (March 24 and March 3) ,with licensed veterinarian Dr. David Bullerdick and his MASH unit, a mobile pet hospital. We will perform spay/neuters in the morning and shot-only procedures and micro-chipping in the afternoon at both locations.
Thanks to a grant from Presque Isle Electric Cooperative's Communiy First Fund, cost for sterilizing will be $25.00 for a female cat and $25.00 for a male cat.
We do not care if you have five cats--if they need to be sterilized, now is the time. It will decrease the cats in this area and the nuisance problems they bring from spraying to fighting to unwanted litters.
To register for one of these clinics , call (989) 786-5139 and leave a message, wait for the prompt, designating you're leaving a spay/neuter message and then detail the number of cats you want to register, what date or town you prefer, and your phone number where you can be reached as we call to remind you before the date.
Or download the following document, fill it out completely and sign it, and with a check made out to Elk Country Animal Shelter for $10.00, send it to Elk Country Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 434, Atlanta, Michigan 49709 Attention: Cat Clinic.. Your $10.00 deposit is non-refundable if you do not show up for your appointment. Appointment preference will be given to persons sending their deposits in a timely manner.

Cats must be at least nine weeks old or 2 pounds, so if you have young cats, let's get 'em done! Space for female cats is limited, but we will take as many male cats as we can. When bringing your cats to one of our locations, you must have them in carriers. One cat per crate! They will be dropped off at an assigned time and picked up approximately two hours later. Put your name, address and phone number on the crate.
If you only want shots or micro-chipping, please call us and register. Shots will be administered in the afternoons at each location.
If you want to help us spread the word, download our flyer and post it at your workplace. If you want to help financially, we always accept donations designated for our spay and neuter program.
